Dream, Believe, Achieve Broughton CofE School

The School Curriculum

Our curriculum provides the children at Broughton CE School with a
broad, balanced and exciting experience. We are champions of outdoor learning and all classes regularly engage in Forest Schools session, within our extensive grounds. A cross-curricular planning approach has been developed to ensure the curriculum remains dynamic whilst providing coverage of all subjects. We also provide lunchtime and after school clubs, extra-curricular activities and participate often in local sporting events and competitions-We pride ourselves on holding the Gold School Sport Award for the 3rd year running! We also hold bi annual residentials for our Year 5 and 6 children, alternating from a visit to London and a more outdoor themed one, including canoeing, climbing etc.

Parents are provided with a Curriculum Newsletter at the beginning of each term to inform them of learning planned for the term. We have an open door policy and parents are welcome to discuss any of this with the Head, Assistant or with individual class teachers.

Local Offer

At various times in their educational career children may require differing levels of assistance with their learning If special help is required, arrangements are made within the school for their needs to be met as fully as possible Parents will be consulted at all stages of the process and, if necessary, external agencies will be consulted and special programmes of work may be devised.

We believe all children, whatever their individual needs, are entitled to experience the same curriculum and to have access to the experiences and activities provided by the school. Special Educational Needs provision is carried out in a caring, supportive atmosphere which promotes learning. All teachers are responsible for teaching children with Special Educational Needs.

Schools Extended Local Offer Response

How does the setting/school/college know if children/young people need extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?

The school will regularly assess children in a range of areas and very quickly become aware of any additional support that may be needed, either short term or over a longer and more extensive nature.

We welcome communication with parents and working together to provide the best education and learning experience for all our children.

How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?

We have a vibrant and thriving Early Years class and have recently also expanded this to include nursery aged children from 2 years. Mr Knaggs, our Assistant Head and the dedicated staff within the nursery work with the little ones to make their learning fun, relevant and progressive.

Communication is very important to us and we use Tapestry to underpin our Foundation stage journey as well as Dojo messaging to provide instant contact between school and home.
